Westside Gunn x Saucony Grid Jazz 9 "Awesome God"
Westside Gunn doesn't do anything quietly, and his latest sneaker collaboration is no exception. The Griselda Records founder has linked up with Saucony on the Grid Jazz 9 "Awesome God," a shoe built entirely around excess — loud animal prints, luxury materials, and enough archival sneaker history to make even the most seasoned collectors take notice.
Westside Gunn has spent his career blending high fashion with hip-hop's rawest edges, and the "Awesome God" continues that thread. The design pulls "heavy inspiration from iconic archival releases by Jeremy Scott and atmos" — specifically Jeremy Scott's boundary-pushing adidas work and atmos's celebrated run of Nike Air Max colourways. The result is what's been described as a rich, loud combination of animal prints, both traditional and colourful, sitting on a running silhouette that's usually reserved for quiet gorpcore energy.
Griselda branding runs through every detail. The label's scorpion motif is stamped into the heel, printed on the insole, and repeated on the hangtag — small touches that tie the shoe back to the label Westside Gunn built from the ground up, and to Buffalo, New York, the city that raised him.
The Grid Jazz 9 upper is where the shoe earns its name. Cheetah, zebra, cow, and faux pony hair panelling wrap the base of the shoe, layered with bright pink and yellow accents across the side logos, tongue, backtab, and toe box. Leather moccasin laces finish things off with a level of craftsmanship you don't usually get on a running shoe, pulling the whole design somewhere between archive sneaker and luxury slipper. It's a lot of shoe. That's the point.
